(A2) (i) After reading the poem, match column A with column B
Column A Column B
- The lady’s beauty A cloudless starry night
- Her hair Wavy and black
- Her eyes A perfect blend of light and darkness
- Her smile Soft ,calm and eloquent
- Her mind At peace with all below a heart
- Her face Express thoughts serenely and sweetly
Throughout her entire life, she has maintained a peaceful mind that runs deep within her. There is something very innocent about her heart that makes her so attractive. Her beauty is not just evident from the outside, but also from the inside as well. Not only does she have a beautiful face, but she also has a beautiful heart.
(iii) In this poem, the poet brings a perfect balance of outer beauty and inner beauty. Write a few lines on how the poet brings this balance in his description.
It is the poet's belief that the lady is not only beautiful from the outside, but also from the inside as well. Her smile is winning, soft, and eloquent. Her face is serene and sweet. But such extraordinary beauty is only possible unless one is beautiful that is innocent from the inside of the heart.
(iv) 'Beauty is skin deep '- Do you agree with the statement ? Or do you think that beauty comes from within? Explain your views in a few sentences.

Ans – Yes, I do agree that beauty is skin deep. I also think that beauty comes from within. Although outer appearance is the determining factor of beauty, it is deceptive. But it is the inner goodness of a person that makes him or her beautiful in a true sense. A person's inner goodness can be found in their innocence or calmness.

(A5) Write an appreciation of the poem ' She Walks in Beauty'.
Answer:Byron begins the poem with a simple description of a woman,She walks in beauty, like the night / Of cloudless climes and starry skies. There is no doubt that this woman is incredibly attractive in a natural way. Her beauty is inherent; it does not require artificial embellishments to enhance it. Following this, the poet compares the beauty of the woman to the beauty of different aspects of nature. The woman is compared to the night in the first comparison.
The night is often seen as a time when things are hidden and dangerous, but Byron shows us that there can also be beauty in the darkness. A second comparison is drawn between the woman and the "cloudless climes and starry skies." The contrast between the dark night and the bright, open sky is presented in this image. As a result, it emphasizes the idea that light and beauty can exist even in the midst of darkness. It is in the final stanza of the poem that these two images are brought together, as well as the introduction of a new one. A woman's beauty is now compared to the dew on the first red and yellow leaves of autumn's lingering robe.
Language, style, poetic devices
The poem is written in iambic pentameter, with each line consisting of ten syllables. The rhyme scheme is AABBCCDDEE. The poem is structured around three quatrains, each with its own rhyme scheme. The first two quatrains follow an AABB pattern, while the third quatrain has a more complex scheme of ABAB. The poem employs a number of different poetic devices, including alliteration, assonance, simile, and metaphor.
Tone and type
The tone of the poem is one of admiration and appreciation. The speaker is clearly impressed by the woman’s beauty, and he uses language that conveys his sense of wonder. The poem is classified as a lyric poem, which is a type of poem that focuses on a single subject and uses musical language to express the poet’s emotions.
Value:This poem is valuable because it shows us that beauty can be found in many things, even in the darkness. It also reminds us that we should take the time to appreciate the simple things in life.
